I am also experiencing that issue. Whenever I create/delete files or even entire directories Dolphin does not show them without manually refreshing.

Kubuntu 12.04 LTS
Filesystem : ext4
Dolphin Version 2.0, KDE 4.8.2

It really is a nuisance and a huge letdown for me after switching from Windows to Kubuntu :(
I know you can just press F5 but one can't seriously suggest that as a permanent solution. It's very annoying, especially since I keep forgetting that it doesn't work, especially if I have been working on my other laptop which runs Windows...

Has anyone attempted to determine if the number of files in the directory, type of view used in Dolphin, number of open applications (including other file managers) or the characters involved (ie. non-a-z/0-9) affect this?

My usual test is with my home directory, or with a new directory which is empty (and I have so far never been able to reproduce this).

This is happening in any directory, for example in my ~/Downloads, and in this case there is only ascii characters involved.

This problems happens in my particular case, when you are working hard with files in your KDE, so don't expect you could reproduce the problem in your home directory after a login.

I usually spend several days logged in (although Dolphin/Konqueror are started afresh each time).

You need to stress your system, move a large amount of files from one directory to another, copy, delete, undelete and so on for a while. In my case converting several multimedia files using mkvmerge it's a good method to reproduce this bug.

Maybe my storage space, over 4 TB, could be a factor :?.

I have just performed a series of tests involving a large number of files and data, and have not been able to reproduce this unfortunately.
It really seems unusual as what seperates those people who can and cannot reproduce it.

I'm assuming you have Nepomuk enabled and with a large number of files indexed.

Yes, that is the case, although nepomukfilewatcher is sabotaged on my system (it is disabled on login).

It doesn't matter if strigi file indexer or nepomuk is turned off or on. Also, you don't need to stress your system. For example: http://youtu.be/QlCwEpeB3HY Please try to reproduce exactly these steps.

This is totally reproducible in my system with KDE 4.8.4.

With those accurate steps, I was able to reproduce this issue. I have determined the precise chain of events needed to trigger this.

1) A folder must be viewed, then left.
2) A change to files in that folder must take place
3) The folder must be returned to

From step 3 onward, no further changes will be picked up for that folder at least. Any changes prior to that will be picked up. Making changes to files in a folder while remaining in it is fine. As is leaving it, doing other things in other folders, returning to the original folder and then making changes there.

I saw a "KDirWatch" tool being used earlier. Where did this come from, as I would like to test with it as well to verify KDirWatch is innocent.

I verified the correct operation of KDirWatch using that utility. This indicates this is probably a bug in Dolphin therefore.

It's happening in Konqueror too. And the no refresh bug sometimes happens in Folder View Plasmoid but this particular test case can't be applied to Folder View.

Not sure if it is related to the topic, but sometimes Dolphin doesn't do anything on arrow keys or Enter after I press F2 and then Esc without real renaming selected file. I need to mke a selection by mouse to make Dolphin work correctly after that.

(KDE 4.8.4, Kubuntu 12.04, filesystem is ext4, directory is ~.)
