Correct me if i'm wrong, but Konqueror shares same view engine. On the other hand, if i'm not mistaken, Krusader also uses kdirwatch for monitoring file system changes, and doesn't have this problems.

(KDE 4.8.4, Kubuntu 12.04, filesystem is ext4, directory is ~.)

It's not related.

I (sometimes) have this issue with open/save KDialog(new files not shown in the directory), so it might not be Dolphin related.

Indeed, looks like KDialog is affected exactly like Dolphin. Anyone known, if it's based one the same code?

Konqueror uses the Dolphin Part (which is the file management component) so it being affected as well is expected.

No, it isn't.

1) A folder must be viewed, then left.
2) A change to files in that folder must take place
3) The folder must be returned to

From step 3 onward, no further changes will be picked up for that folder at least. Any changes prior to that will be picked up. Making changes to files in a folder while remaining in it is fine. As is leaving it, doing other things in other folders, returning to the original folder and then making changes there.

Thanks, I'll check that when I'm sitting in front of my development machine with some spare time (which won't happen much during the next couple of weeks).

I can reproduce this in Dolphin 2.1, KDE 4.9.3, Kubuntu 12.10, Italian language.

Anyone has more info about the current status of this issue?

Sorry, I was maybe not precise enough (sorry for not replying earlier BTW, I must have missed that). The entire model/view codes of Dolphin and the dialogs have nothing in common. However, both use KDirLister to get information about files and folders, and because this was a KDirLister bug, it should be fixed in both now when using KDE 4.9.4 or later.

Could someone please have a look to a different but possibly-slightly-related issue ? that is, Drag doesn't copy (but CTRL-C + CTRL-V does).

BTW, should I avoid "attention requests" like this one? Sorry, I'm new to the forum!

You should indeed, because

a) The issues do not look related at all.
b) If you had put your topic into the Dolphin forum, the "attention request" would have been entirely unnecessary.
c) Bugs should actually be reported at bugs.kde.org. But please try to find simple steps to reproduce the bug first. It's rather unlikely that we can do anything about random problems that we cannot reproduce.

Thanks.

Unfortunately I'm still hitting this bug in 4.9.98 quite often. http://youtu.be/SU_Thrus3so

New to KDE this last week and can confirm 4.9.4 and bug is still there.
Irritating and inching for a full year and still present?

Tho closing and restarting Dolphin seems to work.
