Hi there!
My problem is that Dolphin works very slow and odd with thumbnails since I upgraded my system to KDE-4.8 version .
I don't know how to describe in words its behavior so I made a short video showing how it works.
Here is the youtube clip.

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Daniel

I face this issue as well. Does a bug report exist for this? Hope to see it fixed in one of the point releases.

Can you reproduce this problem under a new user? I could not reproduce this on my KDE Trunk system.

I'll see if it's the same as root. Don't have another user account to have rights to see the files from my account.

Yet, it would be useful to say that when I upgrade to major versions (ex. 4.5 to 4.6 to 4.7 etc.) I always delete almost all the /home/my_account/.all_hidden_files_&_folders

So that I did for 4.8 version, too (including the nepomuk related files)

edit----

It seems that it works faster as a different user (root in this case) yet...it's somehow odd how it makes the thumbnails and this is another thing that driving me crazy...so...not 100% sure but it seems that dolphin creates thumbnails by the files' names order ..well, I'm using "order by type" view so,it arranges by type after dolphin creates the thumbnails by name order !!
Oh, and the crazy thing is that it seems that thumbnails are created every time I open the same folder. First time it takes longer to make the thumbs then faster. On the 4.7 version, dolphin created in a reasonable time (I'd say very fast) the thumbs at the first open then almost instantly .

Well, to say the whole truth, the whole 4.8 KDE performs worst then the previous version !!
Power control works by its "free will" and turn off my display even that I set it to stay on always...
Also, there are 2 icons on the task manager (konqueror and dolphin shortcuts) which are there by default and if I deleted them they appear back after a new logon ..
And maybe there are more issues but these are the most annoying and the most of these is the dolphin thumbnails issue.

For the thumbnails, have you tried deleting the ~/.thumbnails/ folder?
Also, try tweaking the Thumbnailing settings at Dolphin > Settings > Configure Dolphin > General > Previews. Uncheck "Directories".

If you do not have a "Settings" menu, press the key combination Ctrl + M.

Hi,
I've just upgraded kde to KDE-4.8.1
Well, things are the same.
The only way I can ameliorate that behaviour is to uncheck the "preview - directories" dolphin option. (Thank you bcooksley for this idea) Yet, I feel it as an downgrade ...
If that is done, thumbnails are rendered much faster ... Yet, it's still annoying because of the way how dolphin renders the thumbnails in steps since the 4.8 version:
- 1th step, there are rendered thumbnails ordered by name
- 2nd, thumbnails are ordered by type.
This thing is very annoying on large directories filled with different files types .

FranzF, I don't know if it's something unusual on my .xsession-errors files but if there's someone to know how to read it, this is it on pastebin.com
http://pastebin.mozilla.org/1506672

#dmesg shoot out nothing unusual, but if someone would want to check it, here it is:
http://pastebin.com/9mHD36KX

hmm, maybe the next upgrade will correct this issue.
