Hi

I would like to assign some keyboard shortcut to "View aside preview" in KDE file picker.
Most of time I don't want it to hang around, but there are situations (sending mail with attachment, editing graphic files) when it is invaluable. So I would like to quickly toggle it on and off.

If in doubt what am I talking about, run command:

Code: Select all

kdialog --getopenfilename ./

press options → "Show aside preview"

I have searched forum and web, but with no meaningful tips.
I am using KDE 4.7.4 on Debian testing amd64, if that matters.

How can I assign custom keyboard shortcut to aside preview? Is this even possible?
Any tips will be appreciated.

Whilst possible, it requires modifying the source code unfortunately. This would require you to recompile a core component of KDE - kdelibs.

bcooksley: thanks for your reply. At least now I have clear situation.
Patching and recompiling KDE is no option for me, especially as this is only slight annoyance.

As I understand, new features in KDE community should be filed in Brainstorm section of forum, where users can vote for them and developers may pick these that have most votes. Should I file new feature request about adding option to configure keyboard shortcut for that action?
Or maybe should I file feature request on KDE bugzilla straight away? If so, which component should I choose?

Yes, KDE Brainstorm is the recommended way to request new features at this time.

Unfortunately, one month has passed, and this feature request hasn't been confirmed by Brainstorm moderators. Therefore, you can't vote for it.
