NTP and clocks

Thu Jul 12, 2012 5:43 pm
Hi,

I'm just curious about the option in the Date and Time Settings KCM to enable ntp for the automatic setting of the time. As I have this configured ntpd already (Arch Linux w/systemd), does it actually make a difference whether I check this option or not?

Many thanks,

Not really. That option will cause KDE to periodically sync clock with NTP server. ntpd will periodically sync clock with NTP server.

They both do the same thing. The only difference is that ntpd is system wide, so it will work also if you ever decide to not use KDE SC.
