i had an SVG file that went over the 1024 line length limit... So i changed the limit in Settings>Configure Kate>Editing>Open/save/General>Line Length Limit to 9999

Works like a charm.

EXCEPT that it does not like (opens as RO) the SAME file with the SAME name. i HAVE to use a NEW name. Yucko. Sometimes names are very IMPORTANT!

seem OK now, perhaps it was the restart of the OS

In the event KWrite or Kate opens a file as read-only, you can change this by unchecking the read-only status.
This can be changed at Tools > Read Only Mode in Kate's menus.
