Ran Backup In Time for a test run. It completed, but I was very unhappy with the results, so uninstalled it. It has left me with a host of folder/files to clean up in /.local/share/Trash/Files/ that requires expert use of Terminal commands for kubuntu 12.10
Any constructive suggestions would be most welcome!!

it's your trashcan

if you have a trashcan widget just right click on it -> empty trash or in Dolphin use the kio, in address go to: trash:/, then select delete like any regular file/folder

fyi the the folder address in your post needs to be preceded by a ~ or /home/user_account/ so not to confuse readers

To delete multiple files or folders from the terminal, you can use "rm -R path_to_file_or_folder". Be careful with that command tough, as what it deletes cannot be restored easily.

But yes, usually, you can just click "Trash" and empty that for what you want to do in this case.

Trashcan does not work - files are still present, but don't show in Trashcan

There are 3 folders here: 2.2.teamviewer, 1.2.2, backup.2.2.2
In Thunar, Trash does show these 3 folders, all locked.
Each of these folders contain a phenominal number of files. Below is a screenshot of the Properties page of each. As I opened each, the Size: constantly calculates the actual size -- a very slow process!
I closed Snapshot 1 before it had completed calculating.

you pick a pick hosting site (just google: free picture hosting site), upload the pic and then use the link to the hosted pic

are you the owner of the files? do you have write permission of the folders/files?

could you clarify something(s):
- how did you install/remove Back In Time?
- did you or the removal process move your files to Trash?

The fact that they've got a lock on them means you root privileges are required. A

sudo rm -r /home/bumpy/.local/share/Trash/Files/*

should sort you out.

I can't figure out exactly what you've done, in the properties window there should be a "permissions" tab and not sure how/what the lock emblem is though I'm guessing it's a permmission thing and you don't have permission

not sure but don't think you can delete trashcan files this way as the files are tied to the parent folder and the metadata file and info folder

what you could try is opening Thunar or Dolphin as root and then deleting the Trash folder, not the Trash/files one

how did you originally delete the files

why are you using thunar? are you running KDE desktop or XFCE?

your pic links still not correct, though pics do displaym the first url you use is to postimage.org so when you click on the pic that's where you go not to the page with the pic or th full size pic. also you have extraneous links to things like "picture hosting"
