Hi,

Is there any GUI utility for editing services menu?

I'm using Mint KDE and I search in synaptic package manager to see what if there is any tool like that but I failed. I tried to google about it but I found many references point to shell script based solution ... no one talked about GUI solution :'(

Are you referring to the service menus used by Dolphin and Konqueror, or something else?

Sorry I didn't get it :< What I've to do? I did the following but it didn't work!
  1. Downloaded & extracted kservicemenueditor-0.2a
  2. Run ./setup.py

I got this error message:
Code: Select all
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "./setup.py", line 7, in <module>
    from DistUtilsExtra.command import *
ImportError: No module named DistUtilsExtra.command

PS
I already installed Python-KDE4

there is documentation, you can start here http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tut ... vice_Menus note that part is kde3 specific

Still something missing!!
Code: Select all
$ ./servicemenueditor
could not find one or more of the required .ui files. Make sure these files are installed to a directory listed by `kde4-config --path data`

I'm wondering why KDE doesn't offer GUI tool by default just like Menu Editor

try running the command from within in the folder you extracted it to

ex
~/MyTemp> cd kservicemenueditor-0.2a
~/MyTemp/kservicemenueditor-0.2a>
~/MyTemp/kservicemenueditor-0.2a> ./kservicemenueditor

~/MyTemp/kservicemenueditor-0.2a> ./kservicemenueditor

Oh my got.... I did that since you sent the above link.

The error message crystal clear it couldn't see .ui files although they already exists in same path.

As you are using Mint, have you considered trying the PPA which will ensure proper installation of the Service Menu Editor?
The *.ui file likely needs to be installed in an appropriate directory structure, which is what the setup.py file does.

Voila I fixed this issue as following:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install python-distutils-extra

then

Code: Select all
sudo ./setup.py install
