I'm frustrated by the way applications do their own thing with regards to mimetypes. For example I installed Bluefish and it took over .php, .html, .css and who knows what else. If I install a graphics program or utility it will invariably alter the mimetypes I have intentionally set up for some types of images to open in Gimp, others in Gwenview, some in Inkscape.
I have not found a way to look at and change all the mimetypes a specific application has accociated with it. Currently I have to know what mimetypes have been changed and go type by type to fix them. Can someone direct me to how to view and change all the mimetypes associated with a given application? |

Well, this is a mess indeed. From my experiences the most efficient way of ordering this is to start from filemanager's "Open with" option and setting default app from there. This may be annoying, but I bet you quickly sort out all your common filetypes.

To do this, locate the *.desktop file for the application and open it. Then look for the key "MimeType" - these are the mimetypes associated with the application.
Note that some applications, such as Okular use multiple *.desktop files (one for each plugin) for various reasons, so you will need to find each *.desktop file in turn in this case.
