Kwallet - wrong PW, can't send eMails with Kmail

I store my passwords in Kwallet (Kubuntu 12.10) and therefor Kwallet asks me for pw before getting new mails . For whatever reason I'm frequently asked for the SMTP-pw before sending mails ("remember" check set). Thats annoying but nearly irrelevant. But yesterday silly-boy-me typed a wrong SMTP-pw. And now I can't send mails anymore. Thats a problem! :'( I expected this morning to be asked again for the SMTP-pw so I can correct my goofiness but I was not.

How can I change my SMTP-pw and sent mails again?

How can I set the SMTP-pw for the future and prevent to be asked frequently?

To fix this, start KWalletManager (which may already be minimized to your system tray, if so - you'll need to go there to open it), then open your main wallet. When it opens you will probably see a list of entries, one of which is probably "mailtransports".

Below this you should find the passwords for each of the SMTP servers you connect to. There you will be able to correct your password, or alternatively remove it entirely (at which point KMail will reprompt you for it).

As for the password prompts - is this for the SMTP password, or your wallet password? One possibility is that your wallet keeps closing by itself (you may need to set it to stay open - or to always allow KMail and any other associated components (like Akonadi) to access your wallet.

Thats how far I found the way by my own. I even could recognize which of the numbers represents the account - because of the wrong pw. But correcting doesn't helped. So I decided to delete the entry. Now I can send again! Thanks! ;D But why doesn't worked the pw-correction? I even pressed the saver-button.

Now I hope the pw is saved for eternity. ;)

I'm not sure why correction did not work - perhaps KMail was caching the older password entry.

I just send new mail on a new day: first I was asked for the Kwallet-pw for collecting the mails, than I was asked for the SMTP-pw (Agent for delivery). Why? The "remember" check is set.

I suspect in this case that the SMTP component of KMail is not reading the saved password properly in this case - or your provider is rejecting the initial connection using the saved password. Which version of KDE are you running?

KDE, Kontact and KMail are 4.9.5.

I have another worry: at the beginning (I use KMail only for weeks now) I was asked if I want to grant the permission only once and I said yes for testing. But after some days I checked the remember checkbox. Must I reset the limited permission setting?

The permission is evaluated each time - so this won't be the issue here.
All I can recommend at this point is an upgrade to 4.10 - I don't know if this will help however.

Unfortunately I have no time for that now but I will tell you when I did and the problem still occurs. Till then I will type the right SMTP-pw.

Thanks! 8)
