Hello!
I am looking for a simple backup solution which serves two purposes. 1. Backing up data of defined directories (e.g. ~/Downloads, /media/NAS-Drive) 2. Backing up data of relevant system/application settings (KDE, Iceweasel, etc.) 3. Save Restoring in case sth. goes down the gutter I just recently started to use Linux more intensely, so I have a few newbie questions: A) regarding system settings, what folders will be useful to backup? /etc is the most obvious one. But are there other important folders like /var or /usr which should be added? B) What backup tool can be recommended? I tried a bit with simple tarring and copying of files in anacron scheduler, but I would like to have something simple with a GUI, ideally integrated in KDE. With a overview of what and when things will be backuped. With easy adding and changing targets. I asked Mr. Google, but I could not find anything consistent and actual, and I hesitate to try out everything out there. Any suggestions to narrow down the candidates? Thanks a lot |

I only bother with /etc/ as I don't have a lot of special software installed (/usr) and logs are not of the greatest interest (/var) but that really depends on your situation/requirements.
I remember luckybackup being a reasonable piece of QT-software although the name does not inspire confidence
