Yes, it is hidden but when creating a new wallet, I get this message

KWallet is not managed by systemd - as KDE doesn't use systemd in any way for managing the session, and it cannot be a global/system level service.
To fix this, open System Settings > Account Details > KDE Wallet, and make sure "Enable the KDE wallet subsystem" is checked.

That did the trick and my old wallet and settings have returned. Thank you!!! Now, how do I get Kmail to start using kwallet again?

Those "X Error" messages do get printed from time to time, and can usually be safely ignored.

Now that you have re-enabled KWallet, KMail should begin to use it again automatically, at least in theory. You may need to logout and back in again for it to detect the change to the KWallet status.

Thanks for letting me know that the X Error is normally nothing to worry about.

Regarding KWallet and KMail... When I start up my computer, upon KDE launching and I login, when I launch KMail for the first time, it asks me to migrate the password as KWallet isn't available. I have saved for my gmx.de e-mail address. I click on "Migrate" and everything works fine until I start up the following day.

That is unusual. Can you post a screenshot of that window? You will need to use an external site such as Imageshack to host the image.

Sorry, I am not longer getting that message and KWallet seems to have stored the password. But now I am getting prompted to type in my Wallet password every time I send an e-mail with my gmx.de account. That gets very annoying.

Just set an empty password for your wallet, and you shouldn't get asked anymore:
Left-click on the kwalletmanager icon in the system tray, select your wallet, click on "Open" if necessary and then on "Change Password..."
