I feel like this question has been asked and answered a hundred times, but I still can't find a satisfactory answer: how do I completely remove KWallet from my desktop and is this even possible? I have a minimal install of KDE on Arch Linux. I don't even have KWallet installed, yet I still find traces of it in various other applications. For example, I just tried to add a resource to Akonadi, but I'm not able to configure or use this resource because Akonadi "[c]an't access KWallet." I don't understand how this makes sense since, at least according to the Arch official repos, Akonadi doesn't depend on KWallet. Does this sound like a bug or is there maybe a KWallet file that I forgot to remove?

While Akonadi itself does not use KWallet, it's resources certainly may use KWallet. This appears to be the case here. I assume you have tried to disable KWallet through the usual mechanisms in System Settings > Account Details > KDE Wallet?
With regards to totally purging KWallet - that is impossible, it is a component of kdelibs. If you removed that part of it, then your applications would fail to compile or start.

I solved the issue of the obstinate application by -- throwing out the lot of it .. no kde for me! IMO kde-desktop is putting too much of its weight behind something clearly worthless/unworthy and insignificant, and it is unfortunate for me I had to take this step. Hopefully I wont find similar annoyance with gnome next
