Hi!
I have Kubuntu 12.04
when I click on "install updates" in "Muon update manager" this error message appears: " This operation cannot continue since proper authorization was not provided "
and it's better to know that the "KDE passwd" window, where we can enter our password for specific operations, opens just for a moment before that message.
By this message and problem I can't install updates.
What's the reason of this message and what can I do to solve it?
Thanks a milion in advance!!!
Jesmi

I realized that Muon software center also doesn't work!
I mean I can't install any software and I have same error message.
I thinks I installed a package (while I was updating my system) which couses this problem, I'm not sure, it's just a guess!

define "doesn't work"

what version of KDE, what distro?

do you have the knowledge to reinstall Muon and all its parts in an other manner?

I'm almost new user in Linux so I don't have that knowledge.
How can I know what the version of my KDE and distro is?
I even don't know what the distro is?
I just know it's Kubuntu12.04
I'm really sorry!

distro=distribution of Linux=Kubuntu 12.04

version of KDE can be found in any KDE app by clicking help -> about KDE

did it ever work properly?

in konsole (KDE's terminal app) if you type
Code: Select all
kdesudo muon

does Muon open and run properly and are you able to update? i

Platform version is 4.8.5
Yes it has worked until few days before when I update some important security updates.
suddenly it didn't work any more!
And about that code. That one opens the "Muon package manager" and in this app I have 62196 available packages with 20 upgradeable; so I didn't try to upgrade those!
anyway I don't think that this app has problem because it requests entering pass and I entered my pass, but when I open "muon update manager" this requst page closes very fast and system gives me that error message.
I think it's because of some unferified packages which want to be upgraded!

it might be a polkit (authorizationing) error, Google'ing the error message brings up a fair number of results
including: http://askubuntu.com/questions/103350/h ... es-program

running Muon or the Muon Update Manager shouldn't matter as the actual process should be the same

Thanks a lot. The problem is solved.
I installed policyKit by typing " sudo apt-get install polkit-kde-1 " in terminal. and this instruction solved the problem.
I got this solution from here:"http://askubuntu.com/questions/103350/how-can-i-provide-proper-authorization-to-the-kde-software-updates-program"
this is the link which you sent to me! Thanks again.
according to this link:
"The polkit-kde-1:
PolicyKit-Kde provides a D-Bus session bus service that is used to bring up authentication dialogs used for obtaining privileges."
and in this link were told that rebooting is needed but it works for me without rebooting!
Thanks for your help and kindness!!!

Hi, I have the same problem on Kubuntu 16.04.
The software is now Discover instead of Muon, and it didn't work since right after installation.
I did install polykit-kde-1, but this didn't solve it.

The error I get is the same: This operation cannot continue since proper authorization was not provided.
However, I didn't see the box to request my password, as claimed by other users with the same problem.

Let me know if I can provide more details. Thanks.

maybe you're missing some things

does Muon work?

see https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2312243

also try
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install -f

OpenSuse Leap 42.1 x64, Plasma 5.x
