Have a Nook Color tablet. When I hook up to dolphin shows Sansa e260 mp3 player icon and label says Portable Media Player.
I want to change the icon to a tablet icon and have it report Nook Color Tablet when connected. As I do have a sansa 8gb zip mp3 player and may cause confusion if both plugged in. And seeing the mp3 player giving a Sansa clip Zip 8 but also an extra portable media player icon which is confusing. As the Nook Color tablet doesn't give a an extra device I assume due to being usb and not Mtp? And clicking on 2nd portable media player gives error in dolphin. Tho clicking on sansa device list device content normally. I can right-click hide the 2nd portable media player. But comes back when I plug mp3 player back in.
Any help is appreciated. . |

It sounds like your Nook Tablet might be being misrecognised by your computer.
Can you provide the output of the command:
Please note that it is crucial your Nook Tablet is connected, using the same USB port as you used when the above error was generated.

Well since then a reboot of KDE and my nook color is recognized again.
But a tad confused. 1) Plug in my Sansa Zip mp3 player and I get a portable media player device & Sandisk Sansa Clip Zip 8 device. 2) When I plug in my Nook Color tablet I only get a portable media player device icon. Clicking on it shows contents of device. 3) If I click on 1st portable device icon I assume it is the one for the mp3 player than get the udi error.
As per your instruction did the terminal query.
At one instance it was this way with same kind of error with just the tablet plugged in. But in this case seems it's the mp3 player turn. So confused at how and when this kind of error crops up? Or if it is a known issue with many usb or mtp devices? And why does the tablet only generate one media player icon but the usb mp3 player generates 2 separate device icons. As find that a tad confusing. Also still haven't found thru much searching how to customize your own icon and label for the devices tree or even possible to do so? Unfortunately i'm afraid it is not possible to customise the icons assigned to devices - however in the case of some removable media you can manipulate the shown name by setting the device/partition labels. For devices accessed over MTP this is often not possible however.
In this case, it appears your Sansa device behaves abnormally and offers two methods of accessing itself. To investigate this further, with just your Sansa connected, please post the output of the following command:

It appears that this second entry is an alternative storage component of your device - does it have a slot for a SD card or equivalent? If so - this second entry likely refers to that. Unfortunately it seems a bug somewhere results in KDE believing this device is actually usable (even though it is not) which is why you get that unusual error.

Yep +1 and I think you nailed it. I think that is what is happening.
As usb device would see it. As my mtp nook tablet running android just shows the one icon and shows contents as Internal & SD card that is inserted into it. So seems specific to way the sansa firmware is setup for allocating the sd card slot even tho there isn't a card in it. Thanks for the insights. . |
