I'm afraid you will need to copy the image somewhere safe in this case, and set it to show the image from the new location. I can suggest ~/.kde4/wallpapers/ (which is a location which means nothing to KDE) as a place which is out of your way.

Pictures placed in ~/.kde/share/wallpapers (or ~/.kde4/... if your distro still uses that for kde stuff) will be picked up automatically by the wallpaper selector in desktop settings (right-click on the desktop -> Desktop Settings). So I would suggest putting any pictures that you want to use for your desktop wallpaper in there.
If you just want some place to stash the pictures, you can create a new folder wherever you want and name it whatever you want. To do so, right-click in the directory where you want to create the folder -> Create New -> Folder, and give it the name you want; then put the pictures in there. If you want the folder to be hidden by default you can name the folder to start with a '.' and the file manager will not show it by default (type alt+. to toggle showing of hidden directories).
