Hello. I need to go behind the Device Notifier to remove some devices which are listed. The devices I want to remove fall into two categories :

1. Removable devices which are not currently attached. I know about enabling automatic mounting, selecting devices and clicking on the bar labelled "Forget Device". That works only for some devices.

2. Partitions which do NOT exist on this computer. I installed this system using a live cd or usb (I forget which) created from an iso which contained the system on my old computer which did contain the partitions I now want to remove from the device notifier on the new computer.

Can you please provide a screenshot of this? The Device Notifier in the Plasma Desktop panel uses information from the current state of the computer, and does not save this information for later use. Dolphin also has the same behaviour in this regard.

Thanks for replying. This is the snapshot :

The livecd and usb are NOT connected at present ; sda9 and sda10 do NOT exist on this computer. Normally selecting entries like that activates the "forget device" bar. That no longer happens.

Using the alternative utility ( Desktop Settings > Hardware > Removable Devices ) I was able to delete a few similar entries but not those still shown.

EDIT : I have only selected auto-mount in order to display the entries more clearly. I have to do that also if I want to use the "forget device" bar.

It would appear that this is a bug in the Removable Device automatic mounting controls. Unfortunately the data in question is split over two files.
The first is located at ~/.kde4/share/config/kded_device_automounterrc and the second at ~/.kde4/share/apps/kfileplaces/bookmarks.xml
You will need to edit both manually, using a text editor to clear the entries you don't want to keep.

Thank you. I regret troubling you because I accidentally discovered that I have been 'selecting' devices the wrong way.

The unwanted devices have now been 'forgotten' using the device notifier settings. The file ~/.kde4/share/apps/kfileplaces/bookmarks.xml remains unchanged.

The file ~/.kde4/share/config/kded_device_automounterrc contains no reference to any device.
