How do I make conqueror remember all its settings? For instance, I open a new website, and I get a toolbar that says "HTML Settings, Minitools, Adblock" and so on. I like seeing the icons but not the text, so I right-click and uncheck the "Show Text" box, but when I open a new tab, the text reappears. Also odd, certain items that I add to some toolbars do not appear unless I re-remove and re-add them. For instance, I add "Filelight" to the extra toolbar, but whenever I open a new instance of Konqueror it disappears. Finally, I like seeing the places panel on the left, but the new instance of Konqueror always starts with the left panel hidden. It also does not remember when I check additional file types for preview.

How do I make conqueror remember all these settings? I am using KDE 4.12.3. Many thanks!

Have you tried saving the view profile after making your changes?

I had. I thought it did nothing but it does do a few things (though it still does not remember everything). What it does not remember even after loading the view profile:

- Unchecking the "Show Text" box is not remembered. When I switch to my saved profile, the text shows (there are items in the extra toolbars for web browsing).

- Certain items in my extra toolbar for file browsing are still hidden for some reason. I have to manually remove and add them again then hit apply for them to show (it does not happen with every item, so I don't really know why this is and I think it doesn't have to do with Konqueror remembering settings...It is rather odd, so any ideas on how to debug are much appreciated; the items in question for me are Filelight and File Size View).

Other things are now remembered so thank your for that!

Can you reproduce the Show Text bug in other KDE applications?

As for the extra toolbar, do they all come from Toolbars other than those called <konqueror>?

The hidden issue is very strange: It only happens for some applications, not all. I tried adding a few apps to the toolbar and some were displayed but some were hidden. This is for "Extra Toolbar <Konqueror>" when browsing files.

For the "Show Text," I cannot reproduce for other applications. I cannot actually reproduce for other toolbars even within Konqueror. It only happens with the "Extra Toolbar." However, the items for which it happens are categorized as their own toolbar, for some reason. For instance, it happens for "Adblock," but "Adblock" is not part of "Extra Toolbar <Konqueror>": It is listed separately under "Extra Toolbar <adblock>." It might have something to do with it.

In the meantime, I have a workaround of sorts (not really but it will do for now). Under
Code: Select all
/usr/share/kde4/apps/khtml/kpartplugins
there are several desktop entries for these plugins (the ones listed under a separate toolbar entry; for instance "plugin_adblock.desktop" and "plugin_adblock.rc"). I can modify them to have the problematic items listed under a new, "Custom Toolbar" and change "Custom Toolbar" to be icons only and now I can toggle my Extra Toolbar between show text and not item by item. I still don't know why these particular plugins (like adblock and babelfish) don't remember the "Show Text" settings when doing "Text Alongside icons," however.

This could very well be a bug in KXMLGUI, something that Konqueror uses more extensively than other KDE applications.
Can you please file a bug report at bugs.kde.org?

I suspect something is going wrong during the merging process - which is why there are several "Extra Toolbar <>" entries.
