Hi,
I'm looking at tweaking some of the configuration modules in System Settings to try and make them easier to use whilst keeping every last drop of functionality - particularly the File Associations page, here's a screenshot of the page i mean: http://element-6.deviantart.com/art/Fil ... 1398197271 Marked in red on that page is the search box - the search finds results based on the actual file extension or the name of the filetype. I'd assume that if you went to this File Associations page you'd be looking for a particular filetype or want to change the settings for a particular extension, for both of those the search function will find what you're looking for. Is there any point having the full list (directly below the search box) when you've got a good search function i can't see why you'd need to browse through the list of all the filetypes or am i missing something? When you click on the 'Add' button below the full list to add a new filetype a dialogue pops up with a text field for you to enter the name of your new filetype and a drop down to say what category you want it in (also on that image, circled in red). Does this category just decide in which part of the full list tree it goes in or does this category have another, more important use?? Thanks for your help! |

The category decides in which part of the list it goes, yes. The full list is useful when you know which specific association you are looking for - inode/directory for instance.
