mix kde3 & kde4

Wed Jun 18, 2014 7:03 am
Hello!
I have kde3 & kde4-base installed.
I want to:
1) use krunner from kde4 in kde3 and launch it by Alt+F2;
2) use dolphin from kde4 as default file manager in kde3;
4) use konsole from kde4 instead konsole from kde3 in kde3 session;
5) use konqueror drom kde4 instead konqueror from kde3 in kde3 session.
Is it possible? And how to do this?

My sistem is OpenSUSE 13.1.

At least 4 and 5 should be easy: (what happened to #3 btw? ;) )
Enter kcontrol->KDE components->Select components->Terminal Emulator, choose "Use a different terminal program", click on the button and choose "Konsole/KDE4" from the list (in System->Terminals). The same for the Web Browser.

Unfortunately, setting the default file manager was not possible in KDE3 AFAICS. You could try to edit the file associations for "inode/directory" and "inode/system_directory" accordingly though.

Regarding krunner: you can run it manually (during login f.e.) and ask it to show by calling it's display() method via D-BUS, f.e. with this command line:
Code: Select all
qdbus org.kde.krunner /App display

It should be possible to configure a shortcut that runs this command, if you want to.

But if you want to replace all KDE3 components with their KDE4 counterparts, why not just run/use KDE4 instead? ;)
