kate: swap two words

Thu Nov 06, 2014 8:41 am
Hi everybody,

I've got a *.vcf file, where in quite a lot of the name entries first and surname are swapped.

Is there an easy possibility to swap the order of to marked words, e.g. in Kate?

Thanks in advance,
Wolf

did you try Google'ing? I found this which uses awk and sed and may be adaptable (obviously make a backup copy) https://productforums.google.com/d/msg/ ... W0fT7WQHMJ

you could convert the .vcf into a .csv and then import into a spread sheet and use something like the following to do the swap http://www.extendoffice.com/documents/e ... -name.html

Google'ing will provide web based tools and/or .exe's that will work under wine to convert .vcf to .csv and back, I did this a while ago and worked fine but don't remember which I used.

Thanks for the idea to use the csv export. Indeed, it makes it much easier. Of course, I dont have Excel... (-;
But it should be doable in OOO as well.

Such things should be easy to do with kate's scripting engine, I guess :)

I'm working on the KDevelop IDE.
