kalternatives all grayed out

Wed Feb 25, 2015 1:45 pm
Running Kubuntu 14.04...

I installed kalternatives to manage several Java JREs.

1) is that the right thing to do?

2) I assume this is what shows up as "System administration/Alternatives configuration" in the System Settings?

3) If so, why is the dialog all grayed out. I assume it tells me that I can't change things in /etc, but IIRC other parts of the System Settings just ask for my password to grant me the rights when this is needed.

Am I missing something?

You must run the module as root for doing changes,
otherwise you can just see the available
alternatives.

suggest you try:
Code: Select all
ksudo systemsettings
and then select the module

the code is from 2009 and the process which is called to ask for the password has changed
