How to use the krename efficiently?

Tue Jul 21, 2015 5:57 am
Hi everybody!

As I have to change filenames on a big data archive I tried to use krename.
Though I think the UI is really not intuitive at all after a while of fiddling I can get some things done with it.
But I really get stuck on two issues:

1. - I use the same search & replace patterns everytime but I cannot find any way to save the search pattern for replacement somehow or to add a simple function:
I have to replace german (and scandinavian) letters like "ö", "ä" and "ü" with "ae", "oe" and "ue"... and I have to enter all replacements everytime I start another folder....
The [transliterate] function doesn't work that way either and I cannot find a way to customize the transliteration function.

2. - Though there is the inbuild option to replace the filename extension (like ".JPG" or ".DOC") with lowercase characters this doesn't show any effect on any of my files.
So the only solution for me is to add more "search & replace" rukes which as stated above can't be preserved for the next bunch of files... I am sure there has to be a better way. What am I missing?

Any help here?
thx, piedro
