Here it is, without, and with 'h':
Code: Select all
:~ > df -i /
Filesystem      Inodes  IUsed  IFree IUse% Mounted on
/dev/sda9      1066864 261774 805090   25% /
...
:~ > df -i / -h
Filesystem     Inodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on
/dev/sda9        1.1M  256K  787K   25% /

I have been experimenting with checking, and unchecking the [ ] Enable automatic mounting of removable media check-box (in Removable Devices - System Settings). However, the 'Use%' remains at 25% in either case. Not sure if this is expected or if something isn't working right.

What do the above results indicate? What else would you like to see?

the "du -i" is fine, I just wondered if you had run out of inodes and that was causing your space to show 99%, didn't think it was and it isn't

only things I can think of is that there are hidden folders or files on / that are the issue and the "du -s" command I gave you doesn't account for them. Can you check for hidden folders on /

I may have found it. The Mint installation routine set up a home directory in the root partition, as if I were going to put everything there.

However, I had already set-aside a separate large partition for home. From the size to which the current home has grown, I suspect the OS is 'looking' to where it thinks home should be, instead of where I wanted it to be. I never intended to have most, or all, of what should be in home piling into root! Not enough space there ...

I'm looking up how and where to 'tell' the OS where home is located, and after that's configured, then move everything there -- out of the directory and into the partition.

Does that sound right?

Do you know of any simple terminal commands to do that, move and setup home's location?

you will have to edit /etc/fstab and add a line for /home on it's own partition

you might want to see if there's a known suggested way to do all this in Mint by checking their wiki and forums

Good idea -- because it could be distro-specific, and I've already seen they have a number of threads on this very topic, over there.

I'm especially interest in seeing how they distinguish directories and partitions, with the same name. I've seen posts elsewhere, saying this can be difficult, in Linux-type filesystems.

Anyway, here goes! ;)

Hmmm ... :| I can see v3.1, but can't quite see where the correct link might be, to a build that would work with LinuxMint Quiana/17. Everything for the equivalent Ubuntu should work here with Mint, as well.

Or, is it just not ready yet? And, thanks for a new build, that will address my problem! :)

I'm running Linux Mint 17 - KDE.
Let me know if I'm wrong -- and please give me a link -- but am I correct, :( k4dirstat v3.1 won't run on Trusty?

I'm afraid you are right. k4dirstat >= 3 require KDE Framwork 5 and it's not packaged in Trusty. k4dirstat 3.1 is not available in Vivid because as not being an ubuntu developper I cannot upload it. But if you upgrade to Vivid or later, you can get k4dirstat 3.1.2 from my PPA at https://launchpad.net/~jeromerobert/+ar ... buntu/misc.

I don't plan to maintain k4dirstat 2 but If someone provide patches I'll create a branch for those who want to. To my knowledge, currently, only Arch AUR provide packaging for both k4dirstat 2 and 3.
