This will hardly relate to the filemanager, but a missing mtp dependency.
Try "mtp:/" in the url entry and if that says "unknown protocol", ensure to install kio-extras (kio-mtp is not part of the stock kioslaves, the package kio-mtp was nuked long time ago and if the distro didn't translate that to kio-extras, you simply lack the plugin)
