Hi,
i'm using Debian 8 with KDE 4.14.2 and VLC 2.2.0-rc2 from the official Debian repository. I already asked this question in the videolan forum but no one there seems to have a clue what the problem could be. Or at least no one answered after one month since i made the forum post. ![]() So i hope someone here may have an idea about the misbehavior. My problem is that vlc doesn't show the recent files when i double click on any movie file within the file manager Dolphin (or Konquerer). But when i manually start vlc, click ctrl-o and select a movie it appears in the recent files list of vlc. In vlc settings i have the history activated on the "Interface" settings page. In KDE system settings-> file association->video->x-matroska vlc is the primary video player and started with "/usr/bin/vlc --started-from-file %U". All other kind of programs (texteditor, image viewer, office progs, etc) show the recent files when opening from the file manager. So i think this is something special about the way vlc is associated to the files. I have googled about this problem but can't find any solution to this. Ciao, Rainer |

Wild guess, compare
with
%U refers to urls, while %F to (local) files and maybe vlc only stores the latter? |

Thanks for the tip, but it seems to make no difference for vlc. I also tried with and without the parameter "--started-from-file" and this also doesn't change a thing.

It seems that here also no one knows what this problem could be.
But where could i ask now, when in the vlc and kde forum no one seems to know the problem? ![]() Ciao, Rainer |

Do you have the history when calling with a file parameter, ie. "vlc file.mp4", from bash?
If not, this may actually be some "feature" to only provide that list on a generic start (though it doesn't happen here) In general, file a bug against vlc - they should know best what drives the input of the list (ie. what's maybe missing when calling from another context/with a file parameter) |

I tried many possible start options from shell (different parameters with file and url parameter for the video) including a simple "vlc file.mkv" and with none of them the video shows up on the recent files list. The only way is to manually open the file within the vlc gui to get the list filled. I maybe try to file a bug in the vlc bugtracker.
![]() Thanks for the help so far. Ciao, Rainer |
