Hi all, since a month ago approx I did an upgrade and from there on I had a lot of problems with NetworkManager. Sometimes I couldn't connect to my wifi with the following error "Failed to add connection. No session found for uid 1001 (unknown)". However, as root I could connect without problem. I thought of some misconfiguration for my user and created a shiny new user but it happened the same. Even if I logged as root and then switched to my regular user then the connection was fine. Very strange, right?
I tried ALOT of things but they didn't worked. I suspected of some bug (or misconfiguration from my part) in polkit, and I added rules but it didn't work. Today I found this post https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=742950 where something very similar was reported. I did "$ loginctl list-sessions" and "session 3 uid 0 root" was reported so I suspect from a bug in logind or whoever was the responsible of creating my logind session. I tried in another system that works fine and I see that for a regular user it must report "session 1 uid 1000 <USER> seat0" or similar. Then I suspected from KDM, I switched to GDM and voila the problem seems to be solved. I have
and connection to the wifi seems OK so far. I love all thinks KDE but switching to GDM is not big deal for me. What do you think guys? Should I report a bug in KDM? My system is:
KDM 4.11.22 KDE 5 Plasma (version kf5-kded-5.17.0-1.fc23.x86_64) TIA, Mario |

No. KDM is dead. That said, this works fine here with KDM in openSUSE... There was a bug in systemd (logind) though that could cause such problems with the latest polkit version. (open)SUSE patched polkit to not trigger that bug, but it should be fixed in the latest systemd too. See: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=954139 I'm not completely sure that is what you are experiencing, I have no idea whether your systemd version would contain the fix and I think gdm (and others) should also be affected. Another possible problem might be with the way kdm is built, or the PAM setup. I would suggest filing a bug report with your distribution (Fedora), maybe they would have an idea what's wrong. PS: You might also try to switch to SDDM, which is the recommended DM for Plasma5 and Fedora's default AFAIK. In the end it doesn't matter really, but SDDM is based on Qt5 (while GDM uses GTK), and Plasma5 comes with a configuration module and a greeter theme ("breeze") for SDDM. |

Sorry for the late reply. Your answer is very helpful to me. At least I understand what is hapenning.
OK, I will try to do that.
Thanks again, perhaps I will switch. The truth is that the DM is not that important to me, but if it is the way to go and it works I will give it a try. Thanks! Mario |
