printer settings postscript issue

Tue Jan 26, 2016 5:09 pm
Hi All,
I'm facing an issue with printer settings window, probably related to PS-PDF conversion.
Description: I have a quite old (but serviceable :) ) HP1300 laserjet printer- postscript.

when I try to print the "printer test page" from ksystemsettings5, the file sent to the printer is huge and it takes ages to be printed. Doing the sme thing from hplip utility takes few seconds.

My guess is that the original file (postscript) gets converted to PDF and again, being the printer a PS one, to postcript but all that conversions are not exactly efficient. Of course I could be completely wrong, but looking at tcpdump capture the PS file sent to the printer is about ten times the original one.

I'm not sure if this is a misconfiguration on my side or a kde printing system behaviour. Basically, I was expecting that a ps file was sent more or less untouched to the printer.

Any suggestion will be most welcome.

Thanks.

It's more like the cups testpage is generated on the fly from a pdf pattern.
Everything needs to be either rastered or converted to ps to be printed - pdf is not supported by many (let alone consumer) printers.

Is the testpage your only problem?
