Kdialog freezes up

Mon Feb 22, 2016 10:05 pm
Recently I have begun to have a problem with KDialog freezing up on me when I try to do a Save As, Save, or Load from numerous programs
The box opens up for saving, but the box is empty. Eventually after waiting a while, I will click the close button in the top right. Another pause and then I get a dialog box that says:

Code: Select all
Application "kdialog" is not responding
You tried to close window "Save File – KDialog" from application "kdialog" (Process ID: 3851) but the application is not responding.
Do you want to terminate this application?
Warning: Terminating the application will close all of its child windows. Any unsaved data will be lost."

With a terminate and wait longer option button to click

I'm running Plasma 5 on Arch, everything is updated.

Not being able to interact with files is a bit inconvenient.

Not really sure where to start debugging

Thanks
Jason

Re: Kdialog freezes up  Topic is solved

It's probably only the file dialogs ("kdialog --getopenfilename ~") and not all ("kdialog --yesno foo") and the cause is most likely some inaccessible link (fstab entry - nfs/smb share?) on the left pane?

The kill helper is from the WM - it pings the client when you try to close the window and if it doesn't receive a reply within reasonable time assume it's hung and offers to kill the process for you.

Great, thanks!

There was a smb share on the network that wasn't connecting correctly. I removed it and everything works again. Thanks for your help!
