Hello,
This is my first day with KDE & SUSE. I want to save the YaST Hardware inventory to a file: 'YaST Hardware Info .txt'. No matter where I attempt to save it (example: '/home/linux/'), I get this error: "Saving output to the file '/' failed." What am I doing wrong? Thank You, Mark. |

how exactly are you saving it? in Dolphin? In Konsole using commands?
does /home/linux/ exist ? do you have write access to it? |

Did you actually specify a filename?
It works fine here (I'm still using openSUSE 13.2). Though I cannot even click on OK while the filename field is empty. If you really typed in 'YaST Hardware Info .txt', I would suggest to try *without* spaces instead... |

YaST->Hardware Information has a button "Save into text file...", I suppose that's what the OP means.
As YaST is running as root, it should not be a permission problem... |

I'm saving as I would with any operating system...
Dialog Title: 'YaST2 - Hardware Information'. In the lower right, Button: 'Save to File...' I click the button and a dialog opens Dialog Title: 'Save hwinfo Output to File'. I fill 'File name:' textbox: 'YaST Hardware Info .txt' (without single-quotes). I click 'Save' button. I get the error mentioning '/'. Repeat, except browse away from '/' to '/home/linux/'. I click 'Save' button. I get the error mentioning '/' once again as though browsing to '/home/linux/' didn't work. I'm mystified. |

Again: type in a filename *without* spaces (e.g. 'YaST-Hardware-Info.txt', without single-quotes), and it should work. |

Reminder - your inability to use spaces in the name is not a KDE thing, it is an openSUSE thing - Yast is an openSUSE utility
