Hi there!

I’m posting this especially in the hope that Kubuntu developers are reading here, too.

Under stock Kubuntu 16.04 the new "Discover" tool, kind of a software center, has some issues.
  • Searching for programs doesn’t work, as long as you don’t have the Muon package manager installed. Search (e.g. for common items such as "gimp") will give no results or not the expected ones.
  • In the slide show on top of the program the description texts float widely over their respective boxes, overlap completely, and so make themselves unreadable. Upgrading to Plasma 5.6 over the PPA solves this particular problem, but there’s no bugfix over the common system Updates of Kubuntu, yet.

I consider these issues to be very heavy, as they give new and maybe not so versatile users a very bad first experience on a spot of the system which is essential to everyone. The secondly mentioned one may be only cosmetic, but it makes such a bad impression, especially at this place.

These sound like they are Kubuntu specific bug and should be reported on their bug system

afaik Discover is built on Muon so for it be fully functional (ie show items other then those available in Systemsettings Add-on Installer) it needs Muon, would have thought it was a dependency

As to the slide show not sure who's issue

OpenSuse Leap 42.1 x64, Plasma 5.x

Those are far from the only issues with Discover.
