Hello all! Well after fixing my other problem ok :-) in KDE I guess I should really mention the other problem I'm having regarding NFS. BTW I am using debian stretch; kernel version is 4.6.0-1-amd64 on a normal x86-64 desktop system. Plasmashell returns version 5.6.5 .

What is the correct procedure/setup to mount NFS from within kde? Is it all just done through (say) dolphin or elsewhere? FYI the device I'm trying to mount is just a normal desktop machine. It does not have any desktop installed and functions purely just as a network device for backup (the software it is running is openmediavault).

I understand I can put a line in my /etc/fstab to mount NFS and I can also do the same manually from the command line (which works). Though I'm not really wanting to use /etc/fstab because once the backup/openmediavault powers off if I use an /etc/fstab entry the connection is then not there (since I'd have powered it off) and that seems to cause problems for KDE - things become unresponsive or just plain hang for example.

I can enter something like "nfs://192.168.1.5/export/test" into dolphin's window, but dolphin acts oddly in response to different types of files on nfs. Pictures (jpeg) files for example open fine with gwenview, but right click and then saying "open with" and then choosing GIMP says "file not found". Text files throw an error if I use kate ("Failed to mount /export") and a red box appears inside kate ("Not possible to read from it") - there's a button which says "try again" and this then works and reads file file ok.

Is there some other place I should mount nfs devices from within kde at all? Thanks
