Can I use Linux Live CD to reset my windows 8 password?

I can't access my computer any more due to the incorrect password. A friend told me that linux live cd is able to do this. i am new to linux and hope someone who could give me some suggestions on this. thank you

Yeah, you can, you will need to download a live edition of a Linux distribution (I prefer Ubuntu for the task) and burn that ISO image to a disk (you could also use a Linux distribution on a USB drive). Either way, you will need to boot in to Linux to recover your password. Put the burned disk in the drive (or boot from USB) and boot in to the Live edition of Linux. You should use the standard Live session.

But this method is a little complex and not safe. I suggest you try another tools like: Ophcrack, or UUkeys windows password recovery to reset your win 8 password.

After booting into live distribution, install chntpw from repositories, using this command `sudo apt-get install chntpw`, and see some tutorial or refer some website to do the work.

Offline NT Password & Registry Editor is a linux CD for resetting lost Windows password, which should be what you're looking for:

Also, you can use Windows installation media to reset your password via backdoor:

I lost my login password last time, i can not access my computer as usual , and i didn't have password reset disk ,
Follow my colleagues' way, i made a password reset disk with CD ,then boot the computer form it , i am able to login into my computer again ,
As i knonw , the USB,DVD can be used to make disk ,

If the problem were in 2019,i don't think i would solve it with CD,i wasted 6 CDS and it didn't work.
