Hello. I have KDE version 4.14.18. This problem first occurred a few days ago.

I have a folder widget on the panel. Clicking on the widget shows a list of files in a particular folder. Clicking on the file you want to open should result in the file being opened by the first associated application. In this case the file is a text file which is associated with Geany and two other applications, neither of which is Firefox.

When I click on the text file now, the file is opened in Firefox. I have checked that Geany is the first application associated with text files.

How do I remedy this? Any advice appreciated. I have already tried editing $HOME/local/share/applications/mimeapps.list, /usr/share/mimeapps.list and /usr/share/mimeinfo.cache. It is quite likely that further editing of those files may fix the problem and, if so, how should they or any other file(s) be altered?

The problem has been solved. There were two instances of html code in the document. Once those were removed, the document opened in the text editor instead of in Firefox.
