In Gedit our friend Micah Carrick helped us to do that -->http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10572588/can-gedit-open-links-in-a-web-browser-by-clicking-on-it
I like to save differents links in text files and would like to open that in chromium. Is there a way for do that in Kate to open web links and set up a shortcut for example CTRL+ J . That is bring the mouse pointer anywhere of the url (link) and after hit the shortcut. I have to say that "external tools" is not in plugin manager list--> https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=299248 Or how can we write a python or javascript or whatever script and where ? |

The fact that this feature is not included is nothing but completely insane.
I found this link https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/fa8vup/kate_open_hyperlinks_urls_solved/ and I have so high hopes for it's success that I post this before trying it out Wow, I just noticed you posted that question back in 2016 and no one have answered in all that time. Well, Sir, your patience will finally bare fruit. |

It's not included by default no. But you can add the function. First you need to enable the external tools in Kate. Set the custom external tool as follows: 1) executable: xdg-open ( or any different from default browsing tool for that matter). 2) arguments: %{Document:Selection:Text}. Save. Create a shortcut or put it on the toolbar.

Hi all,
There is no right-click option for a selected url to open it with a web browser? One must click the button?

Not that I'm aware of. Think this https://imgur.com/a/BXawGbb is about what you get as far as fastest goes, on the toolbar.

Bummer, would have been a nice time-saving touch to have this feature. Thanks though for the info!

Not time saving compared to toolbar button. Count the clicks to get the result.
Toolbar: 1)highlight 2)click button Contextmenu: 1)highlight 2)right click 3)click choice

Or if kate could parse URLs, one could just right-click it and choose Open in web browser.
Or just click the underlined URL in kate to open it in a web browser. There are many possibilities. I wish I could could and develop a plugin for that. YMMV.

Like I said. As for your first option/request, a toolbar button is faster ( as compared to "open in browser"). As for the second, some kind of default xdg to open an url in a browser, it might be possible ( maybe by syntax highlighting/underline). But if it's a good option...I doubt it. Personally I prefer a highlight and a toolbar option because when I highlight something ( whether it's an url or not), I can open it straight in a function of choice ( whether it's a website/application or not). Furthermore, since I don't open anything in the same browser ( some stuff I only open in randomized profile ssb's) such a default xdg would be of no use to me. But that's just me.
