Hi all,
In here: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:KDE/Frameworks we can read that kfmclient was "dropped in 16.12". Is it KDE which decided to stop kfmclient development? If yes, anyone have the reason of that choice? I do not expect that only Dolphin is the reason, it's too different from kfmclient, too unfinished compared to kfmclient... |

kfmclient is still part of Konqueror, and Konqueror is still part of KDE Applications 17.04... It has been ported to KF5/Qt5 in 16.12, not dropped. Probably gentoo had a separate kfmclient package, and that has been dropped. I'm not involved in gentoo though, never even used it.
kfmclient is just a "frontend" to run Konqueror. And Konqueror just embeds dolphin for file browsing, so... |

First, thank you wolfi323.
Unfortunately it seems now (konqueror version is 16.12.3 or 5.0.97, depending how I check it) the left panel is not available anymore. That is, in my opinion, a great lost. Dolphin left panel is - still for me - a very poor left panel (no "open with", no more this great impossibility to move folder accidentally into another, it shows always the whole tree rather than showing only home folder...) |

Yes, it has been removed. The comment says:
https://cgit.kde.org/konqueror.git/comm ... eba0a3990c So far nobody did it apparently. OTOH, the KDE4 version would be next to useless now in general as most apps have been ported to KF5 (and konqueror is basically just a shell to embed other applications, so-called "kparts"). But, kfmclient should actually run the default applications as set in systemsettings5 IIANM. |
