My OS of choice, Mageia has lately brought out its revision 6 Release Candidate. Which I've installed on a spare machine for evaluation. There were a few problems, but nothing to unduly worry until I came to Konqueror. Konqueror, I consider is the very best File Manager I've ever had to use. Until now. I don't use it for browsing and have it setup to start in filemanagement mode. I'm not happy about having to kick it into filemanagement mode on every occasion, but it's only a mild annoyance. However, the handling of bookmarks and the absence of the side bar is a far more serious matter. As to bookmarks, I am aware that I can view bookmarks in a toolbar. But I make much use of bookmarks and at present have 26 of them. Now presenting 26 bookmarks, which have laterally variable length titles, laterally in a toolbar at the top of the window, is pointless. This where the sidebar came into it's own. With the present monitors being wide, horizontal space is no longer at a premium , so the sidebar is the ideal place for bookmarks. They're not portrayed in a long, long line, but neatly, in a vertical table. And they're always there to use as required. My current option is now limited to clicking on the toolbar tab to drop down the bookmarks list. This in my mind is no substitute for the old way of doing things. I'm constantly being reminded when some change comes that change is not always for the better, and if change is not for the better then it's best not carried out. Please, please, can I have my sidebar back? Or a way to run Kounqueror 4.14.3 in kde5. There may be other drawbacks to Konqueror, but I've spent so much time trying to circumvent the above, that I've had no time to suss out any others.
