Hi all, is it possible to show the battery percentage in the system tray (like 32%), instead of the battery icon?
If not, how can I make a feature request for this?

Hi,
You can display battery percentage by toggling an option. Right click on your battery indicator > Configure. In General options, check "display percentage". It does not replace the battery icon but only display the percentage as overlay. |

Hi bbo, thank you for your help. Right clicking the battery indicator brings up 'Configure power saving' and in those options I don't see anything to do with displaying battery%. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi,
Ok, sounds weird (I have 2 menu inputs on my system at that place). Just to be sure we understand each other, here is a video of how I did it and what it displays as a result. |

Hi bbo, I don't have that menu, I'm running plasma 5.8.6 and frameworks 5.28.0. What are you running?

Hi. I'm running Plasma 5.10.5 with Frameworks 5.37.0. And that might be the problem. The commit which added this feature is this one. The 5.8 was released two months before it... And I can't find any backport of this feature in the 5.8 LTS branch. That's why you don't have it. Sorry philipw.

No worries, I should've reported this to Debian, not KDE. This is a newbie mistake, please ignore me.

I think you've made a good choice by asking here before openning an issue in the Debian BTS. I don't think that Debian Qt/KDE team is going to backport features from versions other than the one they support.
Another solution would be to ask KDE to backport this feature in 5.8. But I'm not sure if it fits the scope of the LTS (which, to me, means "backport major bugs, not features"). But, in both cases, I might be wrong |

That's a shame, I don't even know what 'backporting' but I assume it's something to do with supporting a feature of a future release? Anyway, I'm still learning about Linux so there's so much to know... I hope Debian does do something but I'll leave it to them.

Oh, sorry to have used unclear words. I should have paid better attention to your signature (... my bad !).
Yes, you've got the meaning of backport Here is the associated wikipedia page. And no, that's absolutely not a shame |

In Plasma 5.8 (Linux Mint KDE 18.3) I can add a new widget which does just that. It needs to be downloaded and installed: Add widgets > Get new widgets > Download new plasma widgets: there, search "battery", and install the one called Battery Time. (It can also be found at https://store.kde.org/p/1166501.) After that, go again to Panel settings, Add widgets, search and add Battery Time. By default it displays both percentage and time remaining, this can be changed in its settings.
The battery icon can be disabled so that only the percentage is displayed, if that's what you want. To avoid seeing two batteries in the panel, either hide the one in the system tray (click the panel settings button, put the mouse over the system tray, check the settings button there: disable Battery and Brightness under General tab, or just hide it under Entries tab) or: keep the system tray battery icon visible, disable the icon in the settings of the new widget (show only percentage) and move this widget close to the battery icon in the system tray (see details for that at the link below). See more details and options at https://unix.stackexchange.com/q/422237/32012. - |

Thank you, this is great... The problem is, I just tried to follow the steps to add the widget and now I've lost my taskbar and the desktop has reset to the default wallpaper. What's more, I can't even right click my desktop, I don't know what's going on!! What's the quickest way to get help on this? Kubuntu 17.10 (64 bit), Plasma 5.10.5, 5.38.0 Frameworks.

I found the solution, I had to edit a config file... it was so painful. I will never use the widget again.
