I can't figure out how to call Konqueror as a file manager. Everything I try opens it as an editor with the location set to about:blank and the window content filled with "<html><head><title>about:blank</title></head><body></body></html>". It looks like an editor, however it's not editable text.
It gives me the same behavior regardless of the "When Konqueror starts:" setting in the configure Konqueror dialog. Here are some examples of what will all open the same strange window.
It will open a directory (local or ftp) if I type the address in the location bar. It will also open a directory in a new tab if the strange window is already open and I call
But I cannot get it to open from scratch with a directory. If I do open a directory or ftp address in a new tab or by typing in the address bar, then then it will not open a sub directory unless I right click and open that in a new tab. |

The problem ended up being the file associations associated with directories. To fix; I opened a file URL in a new tab to get a directory listing (as per the above bug); then I right clicked on a folder and chose properties; I adjusted the file type options/Application Preference Order to have Konqueror first. (it had several seemingly unrelated applications listed before Konqueror like Gwenview, Audacious, Kid3); then I edited the Konqueror association to use "kfmclient openURL /mydirectory".
The associations were broken for Konqueror (I don't know why other than that Konqueror just updated to KF5) but not dolphin. Konqueror uses it's own file associations separate from dolphin. (btw, That's a feature that I find useful and have used for many years. It lets me use dolphin as my general local file manager with associations like HTML opening in Firefox, and then Konqueror is my devoted sFTP file manager where HTML files open in Kate. I have a whole set of separate associations for the two.) |
