I am somewhat new to linux so perhaps this is really easy but I'm having trouble understanding what's going on here. I run

Code: Select all

apt-get update

and it shows a standard looking list of Hits, Gets, and Igns then says it fetched 338 kB. Then I run

apt-get dist-upgrade

, or other variations I've tried, and it says 0 upgrade, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. I've seen people with similar issues in google searching where their problem was generally kept back packages, but their output at least said some number were not upgraded, and their issue was usually fixed by them just using dist-upgrade.

As far as I understand it seems update is saying there are things to update but upgrade can't find them. Is this what's happening? Or is there something trivial I'm missing?
