Red Hat's Latest Project: "Bolt" To Deal With Linux Thunderbolt Security
Bolt Will Tackle Thunderbolt 3 Security on Linux
Any more info on such a Plasma integration? I have a new laptop with a Thunderbolt 3 port and the idea would be to use KDE Neon and a StarTech TB3DOCK2DPPU Thunderbolt 3 Dockingstation so that I only have to plug/unplug a single cable for all the peripherals and power supply, but afaik this could be cumbersome if there is no easy way of controlling Thunderbold 3 security settings by software. Looks like Gnome is already a step ahead in this regard. |

Just wanted to point out that this isn't just a nice-to-have security feature: Lenovo laptops ship with Thanderbolt security set to "user" in the UEFI BIOS Setup. If KDE doesn't provide a UI to authorize new devices, the user experience will be terrible. Even if more advanced users could disable Thunderbolt security in the BIOS, it's hard to discover this solution: when users plug a device and nothing happens, they will assume that Linux does not support their hardware.

Maybe a Plasma developer can comment on that matter?
Or is there another way to submit such a significant feature request to the dev team? |

For submitting such feature requests, I believe they recommend creating the task in https://phabricator.kde.org/ (or bugs.kde.org. I would hope that wherever someone filed it they'd figure out what needs to be done)

Well, [systemsettings] [Bug 395304] Missing UI for Thunderbolt 3 Security Settings has been assigned and I have just seen that it can be voted for the wishlist.
Anyone reading this, please vote HERE to get this integrated into system settings as soon as possible! |
