Can't type é, ó and other characters with Spanish keyboard

I am now experimenting with Plasma 5.12.5 in an openSUSE Tumbleweed VM, and may consider switching to Plasma in the future. Unfortunately, I have encountered a potential deal breaker: I haven't figured out how to type é, ó and other essential accented characters.

System Settings --> Input Devices --> Keyboard -- Layouts lets me add a Spanish keyboard, and from there I can choose from many types: Dvorak, Macintosh, Win keys, dead tilde, etc. When I click 'Preview,' however, I see that none of them let me add the accented characters -- é, ó, ú, ñ -- that I use frequently in Spanish. I can easily add the € euro symbol, but not the é, ó, ú, ñ, etc.

I presume I must be doing something wrong, but haven't figured out what. I've tried holding the win key, the alt key, the control key, all without results.

Any advice will be appreciated.
