I run Mint 18.3 with whatever KDE that's current in that repo.

I have a few items in my Application Menu with
Code: Select all
echo password | sudo -S
in front of them, & as of maybe a month ago, I notice sometimes these commands will fail to run. Sometimes it helps to restart plasma using
Code: Select all
killall plasmashell && kstart plasmashell --shut-up
then try again. But often not.

I assume you are trying to set up shortcuts for launching various applications using sudo (by hardcoding the password in the shortcut? sounds like a security bad practice, but if you feel confident enough to do it I won't try to dissuade you).

A couple of ideas include setting up sudo to not require your password (which is just as safe as saving your password in the shortcut) or switching to setting up PackageKit to allow you to do what you want.
