Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question.

What is the protocol for starting the kio connection server? What environmental variables does it rely on?

I am trying to run kdenlive in a minimal environment on an arm device and am running into the oft cited error "KIO Connection Server not listening..... can not to creat io-slave for protocol 'file'." I have already rebuilt all packages from source on the device with no change in behavior. I read all the threads I could on the topic but found no information about the actual requirements of kio to function properly. Everybody seems to assume a full kde install as well. I know kde isnt very resource intensive these days, but I'm trying to keep my environment as minimal as possible.
