I installed kalarm and got some errors, quoted below, and kalarm said it was unable to create the first alarm. Now "New" alarm is grayed out as well as some other options. Tried resetting to defaults and also removing and reinstalling but no change.

Errors installing kalarm:

These are just warnings that you have duplicate repositories added to your system, specifically google chrome's and google chrome-beta's repos. You only need the normal one to be able to install any of chrome's channels, as when you install the browser's package, it also adds their repo so you can get updates automatically. They don't point out that you don't need to download the google-chrome-beta package if you already have the stable version installed, so that you can just install it using the package manager of your choice.

I do not think that this has anything to do with the Kalarm problem, however, but it won't hurt to fix the warning messages and try updating your system again.

You can delete the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome-beta.list, and refresh your package lists, and the error will go away.
