Help with Synaptic/ Discover

Sun Aug 18, 2019 11:45 pm
help
When try to run Synaptic, I get the error message," Unable to get exclusive lock," when I try to install a package with Discover I get, " unable to obtain lock."
All the checking that I have done points to another process running and interfering with what I am trying to do.
When run sudo dpkg-reconfigure -a, I am told to run, "sudo dpkg-reconfigure libdvd-pkg."
When I run that, I get, :debconf: DbDriver "config": /var/cache/debconf/config.dat is locked by another process: Resource temporarily unavailable,"

How can I correct this?
Thanks for your help

you can't run more than one instance of the installation application. In order to unlock you need to close all instances, then run the following command in a konsole:
Code: Select all
lsof /var/cache/debconf/config.dat

this should tell you the PID number of the process locking the database, You can kill it with the command
Code: Select all
kill -9 (PID number)

If you don't get any results from the lsof command this means the lock is already gone.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...
