Settings Backup

Settings Backup

Is there any method of backing up ENTIRE system including all individual program settings?
(Having to re-apply all custom settings on a re-install would take forever)

Currently using DejaDup to back up files and folders.

You could just grab the entire /home directory and all of its contents (or /home/<user> if there's only one user).

Most settings are stored in so-called dot files and folders in each user's home directory. These are files and folders which start with a '.' and are hidden by default. You can toggle their visibility in dolphin using Alt+. (alt-period). A lot of programs store their configurations and other per-user data under ~/.config or ~/.local, but a large number still store store them in other dot files or folders directly in the user's home directory.
You can pick and choose what you want to keep, or you can just back up the whole home directory (as I assume you are already backing up the per-user documents and contents of other visible folders)

Agreed.

This still seems unclear. Infact, my kmail crashed so I just switched from kubuntu to straight debian with plasma DE. Still trying to work out how to load the bookmarks and passwords from falkon into konqueror, though will get there eventually.
