I'm running Discover on top of pacman.

When new updates are available, it would be really convenient to deselect those packages that require a reboot, like the linux package.

I can see that Discover already groups packages into different categories, like "System Updates". Is there a way to deselect all the packages that fall into this category at once? To avoid having to reboot the system.

System files will only get applied when you reboot, so you can safely install those, they will not be activated until your next reboot.

What I'm trying to avoid is a situation where udev can't mount external drives anymore since the update has changed the contents of /lib/modules, as described here. This happened to me a handful of times after upgrading the system, including the kernel, with pacman.

Do you know whether Discover holds those changes somehow back? Because pacman -Syu sure doesn't.

That should not happen, normally, as none of the running system processes are replaced by an upgrade, Also, what is so hard about the occasional reboot?
No ide if this is possible to select groups of files in Discover, I'd rather thing unlikely, but what you can do is select manually the files to upgrade, but only individually, which can be quite tiresome when there are many.

Discover is not a package manager, so does not have this sort of feature. You'd want a full-on package manager, similar to Synaptic or Muon, if something like this is available for Arch-like systems.
