hello to all !

i use a fresh install of kubuntu 20.04. Installed on a dell G5 laptop. (with nvidia optimus tech)
it took me some time to finalize the install. Not always straightforward, but mostly things ended fine.

I am using this laptop as the main computer of my professional activity (electrician). It is a middle range
laptop, with an i58300H, 8 G ram, 256 G ssd, 1 T hdd, a nice 15" 1920x1080 px screen

i have some issues with kde :

*when using the proprietary driver (nvidia) and the graphics card (gtx1050ti) , some strange artifacts are showing around the desktop icons
*when using the free driver and the intel chip, display is ok :

*Discover shows its large screen at start-up whether updates are or not available. Couldn't find a way to change that. I will probably end by desinstalling it but as it is supposed to be working... Discover has not enough configurations available (on how its interaction w/system /user is controlled)
I am quite used to apt, so this isn't a gig deal, but i wanted to let you know.

*i was unable to find how to adjust the sound of notifications, it says "0" all the time but notifications are very loud... about the sounds :
sound configuration is somehow not very easy and/or effective. Needs some amelioration about what it says, and how to get things done...
(many users ignore terms like "analogic stereo duplex", would be nicer to say it in a more explicit way...)

*the shutdown process takes ages, sometimes hangs...

*I also think the power management isn't good, neither with i915 driver nor nvidia driver... i am still trying to find infos, but not with good succès. So i shut down quite often
to keep my battery charged when travelling...


if this sounds interesting to anyone feel free to ask and propose whatever seems relevant.
