How much telemetry is collected

Sat Oct 02, 2021 9:15 pm
Hi,

I'd like to install and use Kate, and I'm not here to start a flame war, or comment on any politics of data collection, I'd just really like to know what information is being collected when I use it.

For example

1. When running kate is anything being captured or recorded and sent off my PC eg data, keystrokes, sample code etc.
2. When I stop running the main kate app, will other processes still be running in the background ? eg "check for update" processes
3. If there are background processes running are they contacting remote web sites ? And if so what are they recording and sending back ?

Thanks

No, why should there?

If you only installed Kate and its dependencies, no, and if your distribution uses a package manager that checks for updates you can easily disable that. Not related to Kate anyway

There are no background processes run by Kate, if you use a Linux distribution the package manager provided by the distribution usually just check version numbers and check if there are newer versions available in the package sources, nothing is sent off your PC.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...
